What is the purpose of CPE?
  • The mission of the Coalition for Physician Enhancement (CPE) is to support and develop expertise in assessment and educational enhancement for physicians and other healthcare providers who seek a higher level of performance.

Who are members of CPE?

  • CPE is a consortium of professionals with expertise in quality assurance, medical education and the assessment, licensing, and accreditation of referred physicians seeking higher levels of performance in patient care.

How can one become a member of CPE?

  • Individuals may join one of two membership categories: organizational and general.  Organizational members must represent programs that meet specific criteria established by the CPE board.

What is the difference between the membership categories?

  • Organizational members are programs that provide comprehensive high-stakes skills assessments of individual physicians with or without remediation services.  The CPE Board of Directors determines whether a program qualifies for organizational membership based on criteria established by the Board.  An application for organizational membership may be approved by the Board upon supplying the necessary information to determine eligibility and paying dues established by the CPE Board.  Each organizational member is entitled to designate up to five individuals to represent the organization.  Each representative is eligible to vote and to hold office.  Membership is not transferable.
  • Individuals interested in the field of physician enhancement can apply for General Membership.  A person can become a general member upon completing the Application for General Membership and paying membership dues.  All general members are eligible to vote and to hold office. Membership is not transferable.

Are there any specific required guidelines for physician enhancement programs?

  • Guidelines describing the basic elements and practices that are recommended as components of personalized assessment and education programs can be found here.

Does each member organization offer the same services?

  • While all the programs have a similar overall focus, not all programs offer the same services, and they may use different evaluation tools.  To learn more, you can visit each program’s website.  Links to these websites are located on the CPE Organizational Member Roster page.

How can I determine the quality of the programs offered by CPE member organizations?

  • All organizational members must meet certain guidelines to join CPE.  These guidelines can be found on the Guidelines for Physician Enhancement Programs page.  However, each program is distinct and each has its own unique features.  CPE encourages you to call the programs directly to learn more about their services and determine which program is the best fit for your situation.

Where can I find more information on the member organizations?

How do I apply for a general (individual) or organizational membership?

What are the benefits of joining?

  • Members receive many benefits including reduced fees for CPE meetings, regular updates from the CPE Board and access to the members only area of the CPE website, where useful resources, tools and links can be found.

Does it cost anything to join?

  • The Organizational Membership requires annual dues of $1,200 USD, and the General Membership requires annual dues of $250 USD.

How often do the members meet?

  • CPE generally offers educational conferences once a year.  Membership meetings take place in conjunction with educational conferences that are organized around a topic of interest to CPE members.
